Emotions Are Tricky – 5 Tips to Think About

I spent most of my life living on external sources of fulfilment and avoided my emotions at all costs. Did the thing’s society and family said will make me happy. My emotion’s eventually caught up with me and it was tough.

1) It’s Okay Not to be Okay

One of the key things in my journey was to accept I have emotions, for most of my adult life I didn’t even know I had the right to have emotions. The above phrase helped me realise that it’s alright to have meh or low feelings. We can’t always be in a happy state of being all the time.

2) Acknowledge You Have Feelings

I have an opinion? I don’t know how I feel, I don’t know was my answer when I got professional support. Which in turn opened up many years of unresolved issues. We are human and we have emotions, sometimes we are up and sometimes we don’t. It’s okay.

3) Emotions Takes Time

Guess what, you can’t fix them with a quick change of external environments or eating and drinking something. I had to dedicate large amounts of time at the beginning, increasingly less as time goes by. It takes time.

4) Are They Accurate? Past/Present/Future

What you’re feeling right now does not mean they are actually accurate. Take a step back assess whether they are true in the current moment. I had many situations where I was perfectly safe yet my emotions indicated otherwise

5) Develop Your Own Emotional Systems

I researched, tried, failed and tried again and over time have developed what works for me. Everyone has their own unique set of situations. One Week at a Time, 21 days – Last Week, This Week & Next Week
